Taking a significant leap in its clean energy push, Goa has recorded over 25 per cent growth in installed green energy capacity in the last nine months, signalling steady progress towards its long-term renewable energy goals.

The coastal State, which has set a target of generating 150 megawatts (MW) of renewable power by 2030, has so far achieved an installed green energy capacity of 73.43 MW. Since the launch of the State’s solar mission in 2019, the renewable sector has witnessed consistent and rapid growth.

Between April 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025, the installed solar power capacity rose from 58.43 MW to 73.43 MW-an increase of nearly 25.67 per cent. The rooftop solar programme continues to gain momentum, with about 64 MW of rooftop installations completed so far. Total solar power installation in the State stood at 71.44 MW by the end of December.

While solar power has seen robust growth, other renewable sources have remained largely stagnant. Power generation from biogas and waste-to-energy projects has remained unchanged at 1.94 MW, while hydro power generation is limited to just 0.05 MW.

At present, Goa’s daily power demand stands at around 540 MW and rises to nearly 750 MW during peak hours. As per the Goa State Energy Vision 2050, the State aims to generate 150 MW of renewable power by 2030 and become the first State in the country to run entirely on renewable energy by 2050.

The State has also set an ambitious target of achieving 500 gigawatts of power capacity by 2029, a year ahead of the national deadline of 2030.
