A dowry demand of Rs 10 lakh and gold in connection with a marriage proposal has led to a case being registered by Vasco police against three persons from Chimbel.
The complaint was filed by Razak Shaikh of Mangor Hill, Vasco, who claimed that the accused—Rashid Ahmed Chapparband, Nabi Rasul Lalsab Chapparband and Bibijan Chapparband, all residents of Chimbel—had initially agreed to the marriage of his daughter without any dowry conditions. However, on April 29 at around 1 pm at Mangor Hill, the accused allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh and five tolas of gold, and threatened that the marriage would not be conducted unless their demands were met.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police have registered an offence under Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI David Costa of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
