7 pipeline bursts in 8 days leave Ugvem locals frustrated

A burst water pipeline is repaired in Ugvem, Pernem.

Residents of the Mauli Temple area in Ugvem, Pernem, have expressed anger after an ageing water supply pipeline burst around seven times in just eight days, severely disrupting water supply in the locality.
According to villagers, the pipeline was laid many years ago and has become weak over time. Since it runs through the middle of the road, every leak or burst requires the road to be dug up for repairs, causing damage to the roadway and inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
The repeated pipeline failures have led to frequent interruptions in water supply, leaving residents struggling to access water.
Locals allege that the temporary repairs carried out after each burst have failed to provide a lasting solution and have only added to the problem.
“Every time the pipeline bursts, the water supply is cut off and the road has to be dug up again. This has become unbearable,” complained a resident.
With the monsoon now underway, villagers fear the situation could worsen unless immediate action is taken.
They have demanded that the authorities replace the old and damaged pipeline with a new and durable water supply line to permanently solve the recurring leaks and water shortages.
Residents have also warned that if the authorities fail to take prompt and concrete action, they may be forced to launch a public agitation to press for a permanent solution.
