In a move aimed at strengthening professional, citizen-centric and transparent local governance, seven village panchayats in Goa have been awarded with ISO certification.
Minister for Panchayats Mauvin Godinho presented the ISO certificates to the panchayats of Volvoi, Sarzora, Sao Matias, Keri-Terekhol, Menkurem-Dhumase, Harvalem and Chicalim, recognising their efficient public service delivery and improved administrative practices.
Expressing satisfaction over the achievement, Godinho said the ISO certification reflects higher standards of administration at the grassroots level and stressed that these standards must be consistently maintained. He also informed that another 41 village panchayats in the State are currently in the process of obtaining ISO certification.
Stating that the initiative has strengthened the commitment of local self-government bodies towards transparency and efficiency, the minister said, “Let us make Goa different by achieving higher standards in delivering public services at the grassroots level.”
ISO Consultant and lead Auditor, Adrian Simoes said that panchayats achieving ISO certificates have to perform citizens centric governance. Attaining ISO should be the beginning for the panchaayats and they should sustain it by consistent efforts.
