Under the self-sufficient and Atmanirbhar Scheme, a proposal has been put forward to implement a second group farming project over an area of about 15 hectares (approximately 1.5 lakh square metres) at Ghadiwada–Surla.
To bring this land, which has remained fallow for several years, back under cultivation, officials from the Agriculture Department, Water Resources Department, and office bearers of the Bicholim Taluka Farmers Club conducted a joint inspection of the site.
Earlier, the first group farming experiment was successfully launched at Gaonkarwada–Surla, where paddy cultivation has been undertaken using modern agricultural methods. On similar lines, there are plans to make large tracts of fallow land at Ghadiwada–Surla suitable for cultivation.
In this regard, WRD officer Vinod Bhandari, Bicholim Taluka Farmers Club President Vishwambhar Gawas, and their team carried out a detailed inspection of the site. It was informed that the land will be prepared for cultivation using machinery, and preliminary tests have already been conducted.
Agriculture Department officials Neelima Gawas and Pankaj Pokale, along with cooperation from various government departments, have accelerated efforts to ensure the success of this project.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that in the initial phase, the objective is to implement the group farming scheme at four locations in the Sanquelim constituency and bring more land under cultivation.
On behalf of the Farmers Club, President Vishwambhar Gawas stated that their resolve is to organise farmers and bring fallow land under cultivation, assuring that full cooperation will be provided through the agriculture department and the Farmers Club.
Officials and farmers were present during the inspection.
