PANAJI: Goa has taken a significant step towards inclusive tourism today with the inauguration of a specially designed Accessible Boardwalk at Miramar Beach. Developed by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), the project provides barrier-free access for persons with disabilities (PwDs), enabling them to enjoy both the beach and the waters during the upcoming International Purple Fest 2025, scheduled from October 9 to 12.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai said the boardwalk reflects Goa’s steadfast commitment to inclusion. “Through the International Purple Fest, we are celebrating the potential of persons with disabilities while ensuring accessibility becomes a permanent feature of our development plans. This initiative embodies dignity, equality, and empowerment in action,” he added.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted that tourism experiences in Goa should be open to everyone. “This boardwalk represents a milestone under our vision of 'Tourism for All.' By incorporating accessibility into our beach infrastructure, we are reshaping Goa’s tourism landscape to be more inclusive, compassionate, and globally inspiring,” he said.

Noting that accessibility is the bridge between limitation and participation, State Commissioner Guruprasad Pawaskar said, “With the Miramar boardwalk, inclusion is not a favour, it is a right. This will allow persons with disabilities to enjoy the sea like everyone else, making the International Purple Fest 2025 a truly barrier-free celebration.”
