In an interesting development, the government has appointed Margao Deputy Collector Ganesh Barve as the Administrator of the 'Gulistan Muslim Residents Association'.
In an order issued by the Under Secretary (Law), the Administrator has been given the brief to resolve the membership issue in terms of the records of the society and to hold free, fair and proper elections as per the by-laws of the society.
The development comes after the Inspector General of Societies (South), Margao, on November 14, 2025, had declared the renewal of the registration of the 'Gulistan Muslim Residents Association' (Registration No. 116/GOA/88) null and void.
The Inspector General of Societies held that the managing committee of the society elected for the period from December 21, 2024 to December 21, 2025 was illegal, ultra vires and of no legal effect due to serious violations of the basic membership qualifications prescribed under Rule 4(a) of the constitution of the society, leading to severe mismanagement of the affairs of the society.
