CANACONA
Insisting that the government is committed to bringing prosperity to the people of Goa and Canacona in particular, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a fervent appeal to people to cooperate and support the government’s initiative to bring good projects in Canacona.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of Lokosthav-23 at Adarshgram, Amone-Poinguinim in Canacona, in the presence of Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Satish Mahana, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Deputy Speaker Joshua De Souza, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo and other dignitaries.
“If you want to bring this taluka (Canacona) on the path of further progress, I appeal to all people, be it be local representatives, social workers and even media friends, to stand with the government for the good works and good projects,” Sawant said.
“If you give us your cooperation and support, we politicians, including the Speaker Tawadkar and I will get all the needed strength to bring good projects in Goa. I do expect your support and cooperation for the benefits of bringing developments of Canacona.”
“These projects are not to promote our own development, but to bring about development of our people, to ensure that future generations get proper employment and to bring prosperity in the area.”
The chief minister also voiced his displeasure at opposition to projects. “Lately, we are seeing the concept of opposing each and every project. We have seen there is an inside force working overtime to oppose any upcoming projects in Canacona. Previously, Canacona used to be a backward taluka, but due to some projects for the last 8-10 years, Canacona is taking steps towards progress and development.”
Incidentally, the chief minister did not make ant direct reference to the proposed ‘Film City’, but his appeal assumes significance as the Loliem-Polem Gramsabha had recently rejected the proposed ‘Film City’ or any non-traditional developments on the eco-sensitive Bhagwati plateau, where Loliem Commuidade has offered 10.5 lakh sq. mtrs of land to the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) to set up a ‘Film City’.
Referring to the Swayampurna-Goa 2.0, Sawant said the concept of skilling, re-skilling and upskilling concept will be for everyone, including youths, women and elders.
“You register and you will get I-Card, and on that basis we will do skilling for you, we will train you, will provide you tool-kit free of cost. We will also offer a loan of Rs 1 Lakh from any national bank on minimum guarantee to expand your business/trade,” said the chief minister.
