Just metres away from the Belem traffic junction, Navelim, residents of Coldem-Navelim held a protest near the road underpass to demand speed breakers on the service road or face action.
In fact, the residents accompanied by social activist Pratima Coutinho set a seven-day deadline to install the speed breakers or face road blockade.
The residents pointed out that the Coldem road has become accident prone, resulting in many road accidents. “Since last two months, we have witnessed accidents on the road. The authorities should install sign boards making the motorists to halt before taking a turn. Our plea for speed breakers have not been considered till date by the authorities. Are the authorities waiting for a fatal accident to take place to install the speed breakers?” the residents warned.
Pratima Coutinho tried calling Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and the PWD, NH Official Rajesh Gawde, but there was no reply from the official. The agitated residents have warned of a road blockade in the event the speed breakers do not take shape at the site within seven days.
