Goa CM writes to Centre over suspension of Goa-Gatwick Air India flight

PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, requesting urgent intervention to resume the suspended Air India non-stop flight between Goa and London-Gatwick.

In his official communication dated July 23, 2025, Sawant pointed out that the Goa-Gatwick direct flight was suspended in June following the Ahmedabad plane crash. Although services were initially scheduled to resume from July 15, Air India has yet to restart operations on the route.

Highlighting the significance of the connection, the Chief Minister said many Goans depend on the flight for travel to the UK, particularly for employment. He stressed that the continued suspension has caused “a lot of inconvenience to the Goans travelling to and from London.”

Sawant urged the Union Minister to take up the matter with Air India and ensure the early resumption of this critical international route.

Earlier today, AAP MLA Venzy Viegas had raised a point of order, seeking an update on the status of the government’s communication with the Union Ministry regarding the suspended flight. In response, CM Sawant assured the House that the email would be sent that day itself.

The issue was initially flagged by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on the first day of the Goa Legislative Assembly, who expressed concern over the sudden discontinuation of the service. He highlighted that the flight had been frequently used by Goans working or studying abroad and that there had been no official clarity on the reason for the suspension or the possibility of its resumption.
