Three arrested in Sawantwadi for attack on taxi driver in Pernem

Sawantwadi police have arrested three persons from a gang in connection with the attack on a 65-year-old taxi driver in Malpem-Pernem on the night of July 9.

According to reports, a group of persons had hired the taxi driven by Sanjeev Vengurlekar to take them from Calangute to Banda in Sindhudurg-Maharashtra.

As they reached the NH66 highway at Malpem at about 9 pm, the passengers suddenly pounced on Vengurlekar and attacked him with a sharp weapon.

Despite being injured, Vengurlekar resisted the attack, but received multiple injuries. He was later shifted to the GMC hospital in Bambolim, where he is undergoing treatment.

Two persons were later arrested by Old Goa police in this connection, while efforts had been on to trace and nab the other accused.

Pernem Police Inspector Sachin Lokre had also sent some police teams to Maharashtra in search of the accused.

The Sawantwadi police managed to nab Shankar Pawar (24) Raju Pawar (23), both residents of Solapur-Maharashtra and Ajay Bhosale (27) of Dhavajpur-Maharashtra in this connection and later handed them over to the Pernem police.
