Doctor crunch: GMC to hire 95 contractual junior residents

PANAJI

The Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will hold walk-in counselling and interviews on October 29 to fill 95 vacant Junior Resident and Medical Officer posts under a short-tenure recruitment scheme.

The move is aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors at the premier institute and other government health facilities linked to it.

The posts are part of a larger recruitment drive for 200 positions announced by the GMC and candidates selected through the process will receive a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 80,000.

The appointments will be strictly contractual for a period of one year and officials clarified that the tenure will not be extended and will not confer any right to regularisation in government service.

Under the scheme, the selected doctors will serve for six months at GMCH and the remaining six months under the Directorate of Health Services, ensuring manpower support across the public healthcare system.

Priority will be given to graduates of GMCH, beginning with the 2025-26 batch and selection will be based on merit in the MBBS programme.

Graduates from other medical colleges will be considered only if vacancies remain after eligible GMCH candidates have been accommodated.

Applicants must have completed their compulsory rotatory internship and possess valid medical registration at the time of recruitment.

Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen medical services and improve patient care by filling critical gaps in staffing at government healthcare facilities.

The website of GMCH,  www.gmcgoa.edu.in. hosts detailed information regarding eligibility, documentation and the interview process for these 95 short tenure junior resident positions.
