Masked duo burgles Anjuna supermarket, one arrested

An audacious burglary took place at a supermarket in Anjuna in the early hours of July 17, with burglars decamping with nearly ₹1.9 lakh in cash.

Anjuna Police tracked down one of the accused, who was nabbed at the India-Nepal border while allegedly trying to flee the country.

According to police, the break-in occurred between 1 am and 1.30 am at “Oxfen Arcade Pvt Ltd”, a supermarket located at De mello Waddo, near Starco Junction in Anjuna.

Two unidentified masked men, believed to be between 25 and 35 years of age, allegedly gained entry into the premises by cutting the metal grill of the rear window.

Once inside, they rummaged through the store and stole approximately ₹1.9 lakh in cash that was kept at various locations inside the premises.

Anjuna police registered a case under Sections 331(4), 305 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Ian D’Souza, a 40-year-old businessman and owner of the supermarket.

In a breakthrough in the case, police arrested one of the alleged accused—identified as Prithvi alias Ashish (28), a private service employee residing in Nepal.

He was intercepted at the India-Nepal border on July 21, reportedly while attempting to cross over into Nepal.

The accused has since been brought to Anjuna Police Station and remanded to six days in police custody for further investigation.

Police are continuing efforts to trace the second accused and recover the stolen cash.
