PANAJI:

The Goa government today assured that LPG, petrol, and diesel supplies in Goa are stable and adequate to meet current demand, with oil marketing companies (OMCs) and the government closely monitoring the situation and streamlining logistics to ensure uninterrupted availability.

Speaking at a press conference, Secretary of Civil Supplies Sanjiv Gadkar said there is no need for panic buying. “The availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the State of Goa is stable and adequate to meet current demand. OMCs, along with the government, are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring uninterrupted supply,” he said.

He added that supply chains have been strengthened through coordinated logistics planning and timely deliveries across the state.

Domestic LPG distribution continues at normal levels, with around 10,600 cylinders delivered daily, consistent with pre-tension demand. After a surge in March, when bookings rose to over 13,000 per day, demand has now stabilised to about 8,900 daily bookings, indicating easing consumer anxiety.

Digital adoption has also improved significantly, with over 90% of bookings now made through digital platforms, while Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) usage has crossed 90%, up from nearly 30% earlier.

Commercial LPG supply has been scaled up to 60% of normal levels, following phased increases as per central guidelines. To support migrant workers and students, about 11,000 five-kg free trade LPG cylinders have been distributed across the state.

State Level Coordinator for public sector OMCs, Madhurendra Pandey, said petrol and diesel stocks remain well within safe levels.

“Petrol stock currently provides around 12 days of coverage, while diesel reserves are sufficient for about 7 days. Supply is continuously replenished through planned vessel arrivals,” he said.

The government is also encouraging a shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a reliable alternative cooking fuel. PNG infrastructure is already operational in parts of Tiswadi, Ponda, Salcete, and Mormugao, covering nearly 200 housing societies. “Consumers are encouraged to opt for PNG connections as an alternative fuel. Supply is sufficient, and infrastructure is expanding,” Gadkar said.

Authorities have intensified action against black marketing and hoarding, conducting over 450 inspections across the state. “Strict action is being taken wherever irregularities are found. Consumer interests are being safeguarded,” Gadkar said.

Reiterating the government’s message, officials urged citizens not to fall for rumours. “There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Supply is stable and under control,” Pandey said.
