Goa-bound child trafficking thwarted by RPF in Jharkhand

PANAJI: Thirteen children, including a girl, were rescued by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in Jharkhand after being allegedly trafficked to Goa, officials confirmed today.

Acting on intelligence received last evening that children were being trafficked via the Vasco da Gama (VSG) Weekly Express, RPF personnel boarded the train at Muri station. They monitored the children throughout the journey until the train reached Ranchi station, where the rescue was successfully carried out.

“The children were aged between 12 and 17, and most of them had boarded the train at Jasidih Junction,” an RPF officer said. “When we questioned them about where they were going and who was with them, they couldn’t answer properly. They only said they were expected to arrive in Goa for some work.”

Following the rescue, the children were handed over to Child Line officials for care and protection, and a case was registered with the Government Railway Police, Ranchi.
