PANAJI: The Goa electricity department has announced that no new power connections will be provided to unauthorized or illegal structures in the State, even if they possess an Enabling House Number (EHN).
A circular released by the department states that the EHN number is meant solely for taxation purposes by local bodies and does not confer any legal status to a house.
Citing High Court order dated March 6, 2025, the department said that new electricity connections can only be granted after verifying valid construction licences and technical clearance certificates.
“It is clarified that grant of EHN number to unauthorized structure does not in any way grant legal status to house. The purpose of EHN number is only limited to the purpose of taxation for the local bodies,” chief electrical engineer Stephan Fernandes said.
“Thus no new connection to be released for EHN numbers,” he added further.
All sub-divisional officers have been directed to implement these instructions with immediate effect.
