The Shadow Council for Margao and Bhimshakti Sangatan marked the 18th June Kranti Diwas with a programme at Grace Church hall in Margao.
Goa Freedom Fighter's Association President Rohidas Dessai and Freedom Fighter Raya Shirodkar were felicitated on this occasion by Congress MP of Rajya Sabha Chandrakant Handore, who was the chief guest.
The largely attended programme saw the presence of several leaders of various organisations and activists including Ex Sarpanch's Zacarias Goes & Herculano Niaso, Rama Kankonkar, Anthony D'silva, Pratima Coutinho, Jack Mascarenhas, Dyneshwar Varkandkar, Adv. Snehal Onskar, Loyola Rodrigues, Anwar Naroo, Sadanand Vaingankar, Lalan Parsekar etc. who are all known to be fighting for the rights of the marginalised and underprivileged sections of the society. The aim of organising the programme was to unite all such individuals and organisations which were involved in the struggle against harassment and oppression; much alike to the activities of Bhimshakti Sangatan headed by MP Chandrakant Handore in over 7 states across India.
Addressing the gathering, MP Handore expressed immense satisfaction of having the opportunity to work in Goa through his organisation Bhimshakti Sangatan. Showering praises on Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes for igniting the spark for the struggle of Goa's freedom from Portuguese rule, Handore assured the gathering that Bhimshakti Sangatan will undertake a Kranti to unite the middle class, the underprivileged and marginalised sections and help them fight for their rights.
Freedom Fighter's Association President Rohidas Dessai also spoke on the occasion and gave detailed information about how the 18th June Kranti was born in 1946, and the atrocities that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, Dr Juliao Menezes and several other freedom fighters faced following the meeting on June 1946.
Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho in his address gave details of several instances how the powers that be indulge in acts of suppression and harassment to maintain their supremacy over weaker sections of the society. He said that through the Bhimshakti Sangatan they will strive to unitedly fight against the divisive forces.
