The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) has arrested a 28-year-old Pune resident for alleged possession of methamphetamine valued at Rs 6.82 lakh during a narcotic raid in Chopdem on Saturday evening.

The accused, identified as Krushna Sonkellu, a resident of Dapodi in Pune, was caught in possession of 45.5 grams of the synthetic drug. According to the ANC, Sonkellu had arrived in Goa on Friday with the intention of supplying drugs to partygoers over the weekend.

“Based on intelligence inputs, the ANC had been tracking Sonkellu for the last three days through human sources and technical surveillance. He had reportedly checked into a guest house at Arambol and was under constant watch,” the ANC said.

Acting on a tip-off that he would be heading to Chopdem to sell the drugs, ANC personnel laid a trap and apprehended him with the contraband. Preliminary interrogation revealed he had sourced the methamphetamine from Mumbai and transported it to Goa via Pune.

The raid was conducted by Police Inspector Sajith Pillai and a team of police constables including Godish Goltekar, Sanjay Gaonkar, Sairaj Naik, Vishal Shitole and Lady Constable Jyoti Naik. The operation was supervised by DySP Narcotics Neslon Albuquerque under the overall guidance of SP ANC Sunita Sawant.

Sonkellu was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Pernem, who remanded him to five days of police custody.
