State BJP President Damu Naik fired yet another salvo at arch political rival, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai over the latter’s claim on development in Fatorda, as he demanded that the Fatorda MLA should explain to Fatordekars why he failed to return back the fields acquired by the government at Madel for the proposed Truck terminus during his three-term stint as MLA.
The State BJP Chief Damu Naik reiterated his claim that the incumbent Fatorda MLA has not brought a single signature project in the constituency in the last 13 years in the constituency.
Speaking to the media on the side lines of a bicycle distribution progam organised by Shree Dambabalem Ghodem cultural association in association with Goa Livelihood Forum, Damu sought to know why Sardesai could not return back the acquired fields at Madel back to the farmers when he became the State’s Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP government. “The MLA had backed the farmers of Madel over the return of their fields. But, when he became the MLA in 2012, he did not nothing to see that the fields are returned back to the farmers”, he added.
Damu said he has sought to remind the people on the developments ushered by him in Fatorda after the Fatorda MLA took credit for the constituency’s development. “How can he take the credit for Fatorda’s development when most of the major projects were brought in the constituency during my tenure. They talk of setting up the Fatorda police station, but Fatordekars question whether the police was required in peaceful Fatorda or was required to be set up in the Housing Board”, he questioned.
The BJP State president said one of the main reasons behind his defeat from Fatroda post-2012 was the delimitation of Assembly constituencies. “In 2012, our stronghold areas such as Housing Board and the Comba area were merged into Curtorim and Margao Assembly constituencies respectively. Despite this, my vote share and percentage did not come in any of the elections where I had faced defeat”, he said.
He added: “After the merger of these BJP strongholds in Curtorim and Margao, I had to face a situation to percolate into the minority areas of Fatorda to get the votes. But, I did not run away from the battle field, but tried to win the hearts of the people of Fatorda, including the minorities. That’s the reason why my vote share never came down despite defeats”.
Damu pooh poohed the claim made by the Goa Forward backed Councillors on Saturday that the Fatorda has witnessed development because of work done by MLA Vijai Sardesai.
