Welcoming the creation of the new Kushavati district, the Curchorem BJP Yuva Morcha has, however, demanded that Curchorem, and not Quepem, be made the headquarters of the new district.
Addressing a news conference on Friday, Curchorem BJP Yuva Morcha President Nikhil Shirodkar said Curchorem is not only a central area in the district, but it has all the facilities in the area.
Shirodkar said Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral had proposed the creation of a third district in the legislative assembly, and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant followed up by declaring Kushavati as the third district.
Justifying Curchorem as the headquarters, Shirodkar said: “Curchorem town has got a good road and rail connectivity, a fire station, police station, hospital, a garbage disposal plant, Ravindra Bhavan, and other infrastructure. The demand for Curchorem to be the headquarters is not just an emotional appeal, but a practical necessity.”
Considering the location of all four talukas, Curchorem is a centrally located place. It is an educational hub with two higher secondary schools and five schools. It also has sports and other facilities,” said Shirodkar.
Rama Naik demanded that the headquarters of the Kushavati district be changed from Quepem to Cuchorem. Others present at the news conference included Gaurang Naik and Chandan Desai.
