Local MLA and Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Wednesday said that he would meet the Codar villagers, who are opposing the proposed IIT Goa campus project in their village.
“I will meet the villagers…have proper discussion…only after that I will be able to comment,” Shirodkar said responding to media persons.
He said that he would not like to make any comment without meeting villagers.
The State government is set to acquire over 14 lakh sq mtrs of communidade land in Codar village for setting up IIT Goa campus. However, the villagers have raised their strong opposition to the project citing environmental, ecological and livelihood concerns.
The villagers have sought Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s appointment to apprise him about the ground reality.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who remained tight-lipped on Wednesday, had earlier criticized villagers for opposing the project of national interest.
While villagers claim that the project is of no benefit to Goa, CM had countered the claim saying it will benefit Goan students pursuing IIT, outside the State.
