MLA failed to take up development works in Vasco: Councillor

VASCO
Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Krishna Salkar on Tuesday accused Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida of having failed to take up any development works despite being elected for two consecutive terms.

Addressing a news conference in the presence of another MMC councillor Rochana Borker, Salkar said while Goa was developing under the BJP government, Vasco was lacking behind as several projects had been pending for many years amid failed assurances.

“Almeida has failed miserably in his two-term tenure as MLA. All that he has done in the last nine years has been to give false hopes to people of Vasco and take them for a ride,” said Salkar, who had contested the previous assembly elections against Almeida as an independent candidate.

Rubbishing Almeida’s recent claims that development works required coordination between the councillors and the MLA, Salkar sought to know why no development work was executed by Almeida with his panel of councillors who were in ruling for over four years.

“Almeida neither has the vision nor will to develop the city and the zero development is clearly evident in the port town. Almeida has taken Vasco backwards by 10-15 years by his indifferent attitude towards development, especially at a time when the entire State has been seeing continuous development,” said Salkar.
