Blaming “irresponsible” officers for the sorry state of affairs at the Peddem sports complex, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo on Saturday said the Sports Minister should take action and ensure that the department functions properly.
“The sports complex is totally neglected and it happens because of some irresponsible officers. They are just not bothered. I don’t know what work they are exactly doing there but everyone is taking their salaries. Do they want the MLA to run the department?” asked Ticlo, visibly upset over the sorry state of affairs.
The Aldona MLA was speaking to the media at the sidelines of a function to flag off a cycle rally at the sports complex at Peddem in Mapusa.
Speaking further, he said he received a lot of complaints from sportspersons about the irregularities at the complex.
“The AC units are not functioning. The lights are not working. The toilets are in disrepair. And the list goes on. This is a beautiful complex. People of all ages come here to use the facilities. It’s the responsibility of the department to put things in place,” he said.
“I don’t know if the sports minister is aware or not. I hope he notices now and takes action against those responsible for the mess,” he added.
The MLA said he will take up the issue with the chief minister and also raise the matter in the Assembly.
