Calling it an opportunist party, the Congress in Goa has hit out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, accusing it of being the BJP's B-Team, working to divide opposition votes.
Sharply reacting to Kejriwal's statement, Congress President Amit Patkar said that the AAP leader lands in Goa only during elections, not to challenge the BJP but to attack Congress.
"Instead of fighting the BJP, Arvind Kejriwal has once again chosen the path of opportunism. He lands in Goa only during elections — not to challenge BJP, but to attack Congress and divide the Opposition vote. His politics is not about defeating the BJP; it is about protecting them. This is why Goans rightly call AAP the BJP’s B-Team," Patkar said in a statement issued.
Patkar said that AAP played a vote-cutting role in the 2022 elections. "AAP had no concern for Goans’ well-being, no vision for Goa’s development, and no commitment to protect our identity. The only outcome of AAP’s entry was to indirectly strengthen the BJP," he said.
Patkar said that Congress and its karyakartas have consistently stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Goans — fighting unemployment, exposing corruption, protecting the environment, and defending Goa’s identity.
On the other hand, he asserted that AAP has been absent when people suffered, remained silent when BJP trampled democracy, and invisible when solidarity was most needed.
"Kejriwal’s pattern is clear: when BJP loots, he looks away. When the BJP tramples democracy, he stays quiet. But when elections come, he suddenly arrives with cameras, soundbites, and false promises. This is not politics; this is betrayal of the people," he charged.
Patkar said that Congress is, and will remain, the real Opposition and the true voice of Goa. "We are not here for theatrics, we are here for struggle. We are not here to confuse; we are here to confront. We are not here to save the BJP, we are here to defeat them," he said.
