The Orlim Carnival 2026 became a platform for a notable political coming together, as senior leaders and grassroots representatives from South Goa assembled in a strong display of unity ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Goa Forward Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, along with Colva ZP member Antonio Fernandes (Mam), Colva Sarpanch Treza, Carmona Sarpanch Sandra, Orlim Sarpanch Simon, and former ZP member Joseph, shared the dais during the celebrations.
In a statement issued by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, he said the joint presence of leaders from different constituencies and local bodies was widely seen as a message of political coordination rooted in people’s concerns and grassroots leadership. “The leaders stressed the need for unity, strong local governance, and collective action to address issues affecting Goans, including livelihoods, development, and protection of local interests,” he said.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Venzy said the event underlined a growing sentiment for collaborative politics and a united approach to governance. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to standing together with the people and strengthening democratic institutions from the village level upwards, he added.
“Orlim Carnival 2026 thus marked more than a cultural celebration — it reflected an evolving political alignment focused on unity, accountability, and people-first governance,” Venzy added.
