The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has initiated an inquiry against a Deputy Conductor and a Supervisor attached to the Mapusa Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination centre over allegations of assisting students with answers during an ongoing examination. Both officials have been disallowed from further examination duties pending the probe.

Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye said the action was taken following a formal complaint alleging malpractice.

According to Shetye, an HSSC candidate, along with her parents, approached the Board alleging that the Deputy Conductor – a mathematics teacher – had helped his own commerce stream students during the mathematics paper held on Tuesday. “The Deputy Conductor was their mathematics teacher and the Supervisor was also from the same higher secondary school,” he said.

The complainant further alleged that she too was offered assistance by the teacher. Shetye said that, prima facie, both officials have been disallowed from duty and an inquiry has been initiated.

“Notices have been issued directing them to appear before the Board’s Malpractice Committee this week to provide their explanations. Their responses will be examined, and a parallel internal inquiry will also be conducted,” he said.

Responding to a query, Shetye clarified that, for now, no action will be taken against the students who allegedly received assistance. “It was the duty of the students to refuse any such help. However, they chose to take advantage of the situation,” he remarked.
