PANAJI: Panaji Police arrested 40-year-old Sathish Subramanian from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, for allegedly vandalising a religious cross on Fr. Agnelo Road, Altinho. Panaji police said the accused has been suffering from mental illness and hence referred to IPHB after being produced before JMFC
The case came to light following a written complaint filed by Joseph Vaz, a resident of Fr. Agnelo Road, on July 20. Subramanian was taken into custody on July 21 after being identified through CCTV footage.
According to Panaji Police, the incident occurred between 9 pm and 10 pm on July 19, and the cross, of religious significance to the local community, was found destroyed. An FIR was registered under Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for actions intended to insult religious beliefs. Further investigation is underway.
