PANAJI: Traffic movement along the Belagavi–Goa Highway was disrupted after a portion of the road on the Goa side of Anmod Ghat caved in late last night due to heavy rainfall. The damaged section is located about 10 km from Mollem, near the Dudhsagar temple, where cracks had been detected earlier in the day.
Authorities had initiated precautionary measures, including installing barricades and allowing only one-way traffic, after noticing the cracks. Concrete was also poured into the affected stretch to stabilise it. However, ongoing rain hampered the construction of a new retaining wall, leading to the eventual collapse.
Currently, traffic is being allowed to pass in a single lane. SP Traffic, Goa, in a post on X, confirmed that police personnel are on-site to regulate vehicular movement, and motorists have been urged to exercise caution. Repair work has been initiated following an inspection by officials.
