PANAJI: Two men assaulted a restaurant staffer in Calangute in the early hours of June 8, with the entire incident captured on CCTV. The accused, identified as Abhishek Sutar from Salvador do Mundo, and Deepak Kumar Singh, a UP native residing in Verla Canca, have been arrested, while the second is still absconding.
The victim, restaurant staff, Mainuddin Ansari (31), alleged that the accused arrived on a two-wheeler, refused to pay the bill for the meals and even tried to extort money from him.
"The two accused had food at the restaurant and refused to pay the bill. They assaulted the complainant and also damaged the private property of the complainant. Further, the accused persons, in order to commit extortion, threatened the complainant to break his bones if he failed to hand over the entire cash from the restaurant counter to them," SP (North) Rahul Gupta said, quoting the complaint.
Calangute Police have registered an offence under Sections 115(2), 324(4), and 308(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
