South Goa Member of Parliament Captain Viriato Fernandes, while participating in the discussion on the Union Budget in Parliament, strongly raised concerns regarding “the financial mismanagement” of the Goa government.
He appealed to the Centre to initiate a thorough investigation into the various financial irregularities and alleged scams within the Goa administration.
During his address, he highlighted several pressing issues affecting the state, including the practice of keeping teachers on temporary contracts rather than granting them stable, permanent employment; concerns over coal transportation; termination of the Bal Rath scheme; reduction in expenditure on education; shortage of doctors, staff and medical equipment at the South Goa District Hospital; unplanned development and approvals for mega projects affecting water supply and infrastructure; tax imposed on disability pensions; and the delay in disbursement of funds under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).
He further alleged that due to poor governance and financial mismanagement, Goa is being pushed into mounting debt and rising crime.
