PANAJI: Yet another student has allegedly died by suicide at the BITS Pilani Goa campus, marking the fifth such incident within a year. The deceased, identified as 20-year-old Rishi Nair, was found in his hostel room today.
This incident adds to a string of student deaths over the past year. In December 2024, Om Priyan Singh, a second-year dual degree student from Uttar Pradesh, died by suicide. In March 2025, third-year student Atharv Desai ended his life. Two months later, 20-year-old Krishna Kasera, a second-year MSc Chemistry and BE Electrical and Instrumentation student, was found dead in his hostel room, with his family alleging foul play.
Another recent case involved 20-year-old Kushagra Jain from Lucknow, who was found unresponsive in his hostel room in August after returning to campus for the new academic year.
The spate of tragedies had previously prompted then-Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to seek a report from the institute, directing corrective measures. In response, the BITS Pilani Goa campus submitted a detailed report in May and announced steps including revamping the curriculum, easing exam schedules, introducing wellness and stress management courses, and reviewing student support systems.
