Stop harassment of nuns and priests

RONNIE D’SOUZA, Chandor | 03rd August, 11:37 pm

India is a democratic country where every citizen has the right to follow any religion of their choice. However, rising religious intolerance is deeply concerning.

Catholic priests are being publicly assaulted, and nuns who selflessly serve the poor are falsely accused of human trafficking by certain Hindu groups. These individuals are not forcing conversions; they are simply spreading the word of God.

Unfortunately, the push for a "Hindurashtra" has led to growing harassment and violence against minority communities, particularly Catholics and Muslims. Churches, schools, and charitable missions run by nuns—offering free services to the needy—are being unfairly targeted.

Even Mother Teresa, now a Catholic saint, faced criticism for her work. Yet, her legacy lives on through those who continue to serve humanity. The sexual harassment and abuse of nuns, along with government inaction, is a national shame.

Religious politics is tearing the nation apart. No faith teaches hate. It’s time to unite, respect all communities, and stop dividing India for political gain. Be human first.
