I remember two key things the BJP stood for when in opposition: 1) zero tolerance for corruption, and 2) strong support for a judicial commission that exposed a Rs 35,000 crore mining scam under the previous Congress-led Goa government — a scam I also believe was real.
Today, we’re seeing corruption on an even larger scale. The Zuari land scam, with several others adding up to far more than what Congress was accused of.
To make matters worse, the very politicians once condemned by the BJP — former Congress leaders accused of corruption — are now comfortably settled in the BJP.
The BJP now seems numb to corruption charges, relying instead on vote-winning gimmicks like freebies, legalizing illegalities.
The real question: how long will this arrogance last? If Goans don’t wake up to these manipulations, the biggest losers will be Goa and its people.
