The Goa government’s reported plan to introduce a dedicated helicopter ambulance service for transporting critically ill patients from remote areas to Goa Medical College is a highly commendable initiative. Such a service can prove life-saving during medical emergencies, especially in areas where quick access to specialised healthcare remains difficult. Goa should take inspiration from Madhya Pradesh’s “PM Air Ambulance” model and become one of the leading states in providing an efficient, government-operated air ambulance facility for the public. Considering Goa’s small geographical size, such a service can be implemented effectively and made accessible and affordable to people across the state. Residents from remote villages have long awaited a reliable medical air transport system that can ensure swift emergency care and reduce the risk of losing precious time during critical situations. The proposed service would greatly strengthen Goa’s healthcare infrastructure and emergency response system. The government deserves appreciation for taking this positive step in the interest of public health and safety.
