Going by the innumerable scams unfolding in Goa every day, it can be said without a shade of doubt that we in Goa have presently entered the golden age of scams. Not a day passes without the media reporting multi-crore scams involving land and property grabbing, forgery, illegal land conversions, alteration of survey plans, fraudulent online booking of villas and flats, money laundering, job scams, foreign recruitment scams, etc. Yet our politicians keep telling us that we have entered the age of ‘Viksit Bharat (Goa)’ — the utopian state of prosperity, development and economic growth. The same applies to the entire country, with never-ending court cases and incriminating evidence piled up at the courts to pin the scam-tainted persons, involving even High Court judges. What a shame indeed, and where, may we ask, are we heading in such a dismal and scam-filled scenario?
