Stray cattle continue to be a major problem in Siolim village, and people are slowly running out of patience. Another cow was killed on the MDR 10 road near the Bank of India in Siolim, and the driver responsible is still missing. The police and the panchayat should register a case and recover burial costs from the person responsible. Taxpayers’ money should not be used for such incidents.
Cattle owners are not taking responsibility and are not keeping their animals in safe shelters. The number of stray cows is also increasing. If we are unable to care for them, why can’t we control their population? If we truly consider the cow sacred, it is our duty to find them shelter.
Many comunidade lands marked as grazing areas in old cadastral plans have now been converted into housing projects. This must stop. The government should pass a law to protect grazing lands and convert them into cattle shelters under the Animal Husbandry Department’s schemes, which so far remain only on paper.
