In recent times, the world has experienced several surprising and unprecedented weather changes, including record-breaking heatwaves, extreme rainfall events, and intensified storms. Flash floods, landslides, and extreme heat are ongoing events that are causing loss of human lives. We know the root causes, but as common citizens, it's challenging to tackle the significant contributors, such as petroleum industries, capitalists, and corrupt politicians. Even global efforts seem hypocritical, as seen in the recent climate summit where trees were cleared in a dense Amazon forest. Given this scenario, the actions within our control are domestic waste management and reducing harmful practices like stubble burning. I'm surprised that despite awareness about the impact of stubble burning on Delhi's AQI, similar practices are being followed in Goa. Taleigao field fire got news coverage but I witnessed a massive field fire near Verna recently. If citizens don't take responsibility despite awareness, then industrialists and politicians may not prioritize environmental concerns. A reward/punishment system could be an effective solution. Implementing strict regulations and incentives for sustainable practices might encourage individuals and industries to adopt environmentally friendly habits.
