Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah's recent remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi have sparked significant controversy and condemnation across political and public spectrum. During a public address, Shah referred Col Qureshi as a "sister from the terrorists' community," implying that PM Narendra Modi had deliberately sent someone from that community to counter terrorists. Col Qureshi, a distinguished Indian Army officer, played a prominent role in Operation Sindoor, a military initiative targeting terrorist networks in Pakistan and PoK. The MP High Court has rightly taken suo motu cognizance of Shah's remarks describing it as "gutter language" and ordered the state's DGP to register a FIR against him. Recently, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who was spearheading India’s press briefings since Operation Sindoor began, faced personal attacks on social media platforms. Besides Misri, Himanshi Narwal, wife of a killed naval officer was trolled for appealing not to hate Muslims and Kashmiris post-Pahalgam attack. The ruling party must take action against its minister because setting an example at this level is crucial and especially when all Indian citizens have spoken in one voice to seek justice for the Pahalgam massacre victims.
