Calangute is turning into red light area

Once, Baina was Goa’s largest red-light area, where women from outside the state were brought into the sex trade. Under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar, the BJP government took strong action to eliminate this illegal activity, which had tarnished Goa’s reputation. Today, Baina is a respectable area where families have built homes.

However, a concerning trend has emerged in other parts of Goa, particularly in Calangute. Many clubs, discos, pubs, bars, and restaurants run by outsiders are reportedly bringing in women from outside Goa for similar activities. A YouTuber recently uploaded a video showing alleged red-light activity in Calangute at around 3:00 am. There are also suspicions that some hotels may be involved in this business.

Local MLAs and police officials are accused of receiving kickbacks, enabling this illegal trade to continue without fear. This culture not only damages Goa’s image but also disrespects Goan women. The Goa government and police must take firm action to stop such activities in Calangute and across the state. It is shameful for the authorities to allegedly support such businesses while being a Goan.
