For five hundred years Konkani in Roman script has formed an integral part of Goan social and cultural heritage. Several works in Romi Konkani have been produced as novels, newspapers, publications, magazines as well as scripts for tiatrs which have not only been used by Goans in Goa but by Goans all over the globe. The global Konkani forum has started a signature campaign with seeks to garner public support for granting the Romi script equal status along with Devanagari script. More than 30 panchayats in Goa have passed resolutions to give Konkani in Roman script equal status. The Dalgado Konknni Akademi has requested the government to give Romi Konkani equal status with Devanagari Konkani as well as to give the option for parents of children to choose either Devanagari or Romi script for their children to study Konkani in primary schools. India is a country of several languages and each of these languages forms a part of the unique mosaic which is unity in diversity. It would be in the fitness of things that Romi Konkani be given its due at par with Devanagari Konkani.
