We have two major democracies: the USA and India. In America, people use their civil liberties to challenge the President’s orders, like the recent order denying citizenship under a century-old law to children born in the USA.
In India, if someone raises an objection, the questions are: can they really challenge anything, and will they get fair justice? The Human Rights Commission needs to think about this. Some years ago, Loksatta newspaper said that India is only a democracy on paper. In every way, India seems to be following America’s path.
