The #harghartiranga campaign it certainly a good thing to show one's love for the country but then I have 2 strong reservations: Firstly, it is sponsored by the Govt, the same govt that is making life of the common man miserable to favour select corporates not to leave out high unemployment, poor medical facilities, rising cost of living etc The country is now on the worst global rankings regarding corruption, child malnutrition, hunger, poverty, democracy, media freedom etc... Is the government hiding all of its failures behind the flag? Most of the Central politicians send their children to foreign countries for higher education .... should the Central ministers not first set a good example on patriotism ?
Secondly, to the ordinary citizens, does patriotism only mean raising the flag? What about backing what the flag really stands for? i.e. Unity in diversity, tolerance, respect for all Indian citizens, safeguarding our democratic values, voting for good candidates, protecting the country from those who want to loot and destroy particularly regarding the environment, trees, water bodies? Or are we just promoting hypocritical patriotism!
