As expected, India’s fortnight-long mobilisation of countermeasures following the massacre in Pahalgam has culminated in military action launched on terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK. The Sindoor operation is symbolic of the highest capabilities of the combined forces in carrying out targeted strikes. This must serve as a lesson to Pakistan nurturing terrorist elements on its soil, despite the global pressure to take credible action against the UN-designated terrorists roaming free in that country. What makes these strikes an even more significant accomplishment is the fact that they were carried out from Indian airspace, a fact admitted by Pakistan. Pakistan’s sympathisers would do well to educate that country about the new global situation and advise it to behave. Ratcheting up the rhetoric of war will not help anyone and definitely not Pakistan which is facing economic distress and insurgency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. If anyone can dissuade Pakistan from this path of directing terror at Kashmir as well as de-escalate at this point of extreme tensions post-Pahalgam attack and the Operation Sindoori response, it is the Chinese leadership.
