The reason why Goans of late are facing beef shortage in the state is because some self-styled 'gau rakshaks' are harassing the meat suppliers at most border check posts under some pretext or the other and accusing them of illegally transporting the meat and alleging that it is the product of 'unhygienic slaughter' of 'bulls' which is banned in Karnataka. Aren't there cops at all the check posts to investigate such sensitive matters and to check whether the transported meat is really that of a cow or a bull, buffalo etc? Well, it looks like the State government is inwardly fully backing/using the services of such road-side 'goons' to stop people from transporting beef to Goa as it is slowly intending to interfere in the eating habits of minority communities and thinking of banning beef permanently to play its dirty cow politics for its own long-term political survival in the state. Otherwise, why is the government refusing to take any action against these 'gau rakshaks' for openly flexing their muscles at all the border check posts?
