Where our p'yats stand on multi-housing projects

In the last week we have witnessed 2 cases of contrasts on permissions for multi unit housing projects  (a) Curtorim Panchayat (under pressure from villagers) revokes approval and (b) Betalbatim panchayat ( despite pressure by villagers) expresses helplessness to revoke approval citing TCP has given approvals. The latter Betalbatim excuse is similar to what Colva Panchayat gives Colvenkars like me. As per my understanding of the powers available,  the panchayats have the power to stop housing projects on certain serious ground which includes water issue. So hence the erring panchayat bodies ( including Secretary) are giving lame excuses.  I believe that if a fair probe is conducted into the assets/wealth accumulation of panchas/relatives, it will all be clear as to where the problem is. The bottom line if the respective panchas still insist that that they are helpless, then it’s better they resign than have the destruction of their village on their watch. Surely the measly salary of Rs 4,000-5,000 can’t be the reason the self proclaimed “helpless” panchas have  to be in the panchayat.
