Himachal Pradesh is set to become the first state in the country where reading daily news will be mandatory for students during the morning assembly in government schools.
There was a time when newspapers were regularly available in government schools. However, with changing times and the growing influence of the digital age and social media, the habit of reading has declined.
Now, digital screens have replaced notice boards in schools, and students hold tablets in their hands. The Himachal government has directed all school heads to ensure regular availability of English and Hindi newspapers. These print resources will help improve reading.
