Ever since the start of the construction work on the elevated highway in Porvorim, the entire stretch of CHOGM road from O'Coquiero Circle onwards has turned into a hell for motorists and pedestrians. Motorists now prefer to drive along CHOGM road and use the 2 km bypass road to Mapusa instead of the main road, resulting in endless traffic jams and problems for pedestrians to cross, without the help of traffic police. Residents along CHOGM road also find it difficult to move out of their complexes due to the bumper-to-bumper jam. And to add to the misery, the walkway is also used for parking vehicles and by motorcyclists, making it dangerous for pedestrians to walk without the fear of being knocked down. Besides this, broken paver blocks and excavated earth and rubble heaped up all along the walkway by the contractor undertaking sewerage works make it difficult for pedestrians. Will the PWD and the respective village Panchayats of Porvorim, therefore, get down to some serious work before the start of the monsoon and things get worse?
