When Opposition MLAs went into a huddle earlier this week ahead of the forthcoming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, tongues were left wagging in political circles. Reason: Perhaps for the first time, RGP MLA Vireshbab Borkar was conspicuous by his absence at the meeting of opposition legislators. This assumes significance against the backdrop of the 2024 Lok Sabha election when the regional party contested both the North and South Goa seats. Questions are being raised about whether the Congress did not invite the RGP MLA or whether the invitation was not sent to the regional party MLA due to objections raised in opposition circles not to invite the RGP MLA. Wait and watch.

What's cooking? Vijai's darbar spree keeps allies guessing

Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s janata darbars across the State have only thrown up questions in political circles -- whether it’s just an exercise to hear public grievances ahead of the Assembly session or is there something more than meets the eye. For, what had started in the State capital last month as an interactive session, is now held across the talukas. Vijaibab has already made his presence felt in Canacona, Salcete and Mormugao and has plans to go to Pernem and other talukas. Alliance partners are indeed trying to figure out what’s Goa Forward’s agenda. Any questions?

Venzy gets on 'bad' cop's case but alliance partners keep mum

What do INDI Alliance MLAs have to say about Benaulim AAP MLA Venzybab’s demand for the suspension of the police sub-inspector attached to the Colva police station? Well, the AAP MLA has demanded the suspension of the PSI on the allegation of assault on a woman. Nothing, however, has been heard from the allies, whether they support Venzybab’s demand for suspension or whether they have left the issue to be handled by the Benaulim MLA. Wait and watch as the Benaulim MLA is bracing up to raise the issue in the coming Assembly session.

Tourism Bill googly for CM as stakeholders seek relief

How will Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant respond to the storm brewing over his government’s plan to levy tourism sustainability fees on hotels and tourism-related establishments? In fact, questions are being raised in tourism quarters whether the Chief Minister was kept in the loop over the proposal to levy a two per cent fee on the hotels and establishments. And, whether Pramodbab had given his nod for the sustainability fee as proposed to be introduced in the Tourism Bill. Wait and watch as the tourism stakeholders are looking up to the Chief Minister to bail them out of the web of taxes and fees. Any questions?

Kamat's Delhi trip has supporters buzzing with cabinet berth talk

Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu was in the national capital earlier this week when he called upon Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to thank him for sanctioning a flyover in Margao. Back home, close supporters were anxiously trying to find out whether there was any good news in store for their Baba. Sources said Diggu told his close aides that he was in Delhi in connection with a meeting of the Swimming Federation. With speculations not ruling out the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle in the near future, Diggu’s supporters were indeed on the job to find out whether the long wait would be finally over for the seven-time MLA. Wait and watch.
