Chief Minister Pramod Sawant officially inaugurated the 35th Senior Sepak Takraw Championship, held in the presence of Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and Babu Kavlekar, President of the Goa Sepak Takraw Association.

Dr. Sawant called this a historic and proud moment for Goa, emphasizing that the event will not only give the state a new identity on the global sports stage but also significantly promote the sports culture locally.

The Chief Minister highlighted Goa’s excellent infrastructure and robust sports policies, positioning the state as a preferred destination for sports both nationally and internationally. He expressed hope that the championship will inspire local athletes by providing them access to international-level facilities and competition.

Babu Kavlekar explained that Sepak Takraw is a traditional Southeast Asian sport where players use their feet, head, knees, and chest to hit a special ball made of bamboo. Describing the game as a blend of football and volleyball, he noted that it demands exceptional flexibility, balance, and skill.
