Canacona Sports and Cultural Club emerged champions of the Under-13 GFA Youth League after a convincing 3-0 victory over Raia Football Club in the final played at SAG Artificial Turf Ground, Fatorda on Monday.
This triumph marks a significant achievement for Canacona, considering the intense competition they faced throughout the league. The final match against Raia Football Club, a formidable team from Salcete, presented a major challenge. However, Canacona's resilience and skill shone through, ultimately securing their championship title.
The crucial fixture saw Canacona aiming to extend their lead in the league while navigating a demanding schedule. The outcome of the match would decide the championship fate - Canacona's coronation or Raia keeping the title race alive.
Aditya Bandi was the star performer for the champions, scoring a brilliant hat-trick. Bandi opened the scoring in the very early stages of the match, finding the net in the sixth minute. Canacona continued to press forward, doubling their lead in the 24th minute.
The second half saw Canacona maintain their relentless attacking approach, keeping their rivals on the back foot. Aditya Bandi completed his hat-trick in the 30th minute, effectively sealing the win for Canacona.
GFA executive member Ravindra Cabral graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed trophies in the presence of other dignitaries, including Anthony Pango (Senior Vice President, South Goa), Anthony Leo Fernandes (GFA Executive Member), and Savio Madeira (Chairman, GFA Technical Committee).
